Club Capris and Broadside Bash

Our gang is going to be hitting a number of events this year as a group, so I felt we needed a place to confer and report on what we have been up to.  So, I took my unused personal gaming blog and am going to rework it into this.  Nothing fancy, but a place for some basic communication.

So, our first event of the year as a group is the Broadside Bash and here are the results, complete with Fred's analasys:

Below is a breakdown of Club Capri:
Overall Rank Battle Rank Sports Rank Army Rank Appear Rank
Quentin Daemons 162 1 96 1 24 15 16 31 26 16
Fred Beastmen 156 2 81 4 25 6 24 6 29 5
Roman WOC 145 5 80 6 25 6 22 10 18 33
Jeremy Ogres 141 8 74 9 25 6 16 31 29 5
Bill WOC 126 24 47 31 28 1 25 3 25 20
Jim Lizzies 119 30 54 28 26 3 24 6 15 34

My thoughts, for what they are worth.

First, congratulations to Q for a solid win overall, and to Bill (a.k.a Bill ‘Muthafuggin’ Sportsman) for (yet another) Best Sportsman trophy! (You know, after a while it just looks like gloating, which is not sportsmanny at all!)

Overall comments, we are quite solid in the Sports category. As a club, we averaged 25.5 points, with 25 being max. Q lost a point, but he was playing in the jerk category in the final rounds. The average, not including us, was 24.7. We also took 4 of the top 10 spots.

Quentin. Not much to say with an overall win. I think the Mask cost you about 5 points in comp. Taking Phantasmagoria probably another 2 points, because you don’t always get it. Mask and Phantas probably netted you at least one of your 5 wins, however, for a net gain of 5 points. Reality, at 6 points ahead of me you did not need it.

Fred. I think I did as well as I could. My first opponent must have hammered me in Comp and Sport, but they throw out the lowest so I finished strong. I probably should have gone 3-2 or 2-3, but luck prevailed for a 4-1 finish. At 24 comp, I was ranked in the 6 softest lists there. On my appearance score I was robbed of at least 1 or 2 points for conversions. I think they did not realize that the centigors and chariots were scratch built, half my characters are pieced together from bits and rare models, & I sculpted fur for every pig in the army. My bestigors are my only standard beastmen models, but thems the breaks. It would not have impacted my overall score and the best painted was far ahead of me.

Roman. Nice show after ducking us all since 7th. Battle, Sports and Comp all decent. Appearance can net you 6 easy points, just finish painting. With those points added in, you bump up to 4th and are one win away from an overall.

Jeremy, also a nice showing at 8th. Sorry, expect Ogre hate for about 6 months to a year. I can feel your pain, having suffered the same fate with my daemons in 7th. Ogre hate probably cost you 4 to 6 points in comp. those points alone pull you up to 5th with Roman. Swing one loss to a win and you take overall. Looking at Ogres, Zach Brooks score a 20, even with the Ogre hate and scoring 76 battle points, and there were some other lower scoring Ogres that took 18 to 20’s as well. What did those guys take to gain 5 comp points?

Bill. Love the general, but he costs you tournaments. Time to switch. I think you add in the shaggoth, buy 6 more chosen and a hero level general. You can play your shaggoth like you do the lesser daemon (throw him at units and pray), and it will not be so costly. Alternatively, you make the mage an archmage for more spell variety. That way, when you are beating up on kids you can cast spells other than gateway to keep a solid comp/sports score. I would wait to add in dragon ogres until the shaggoth is painted.

Jim. Paint!! Paint!! Paint!! You need to finish, and stop adding more units until they are painted!!! One week of speed painting should do it. Then, base it up. You were 9 points short in appearance. That moves you up 9 places. 3rd in sports is solid. As for comp, you came in 6th , and you didn’t have to play any jerks. I would not change up much in comp. I think your spear dude will eventually pay off. I think your battle was lower than your average. You typically score much higher. With full paint and 24 more battle points, you would win overall.
